Cardi B took the stand during her defamation trial against an Atlanta blogger and confessed that the spread of false reports took a toll on her emotional well-being.
On Thursday (Jan. 13), the “Up” emcee opened up about the defamatory blogs made by YouTuber Latasha Kebe and the effects they had on her mental health.
“I felt extremely suicidal,” she said, per Billboard. “I felt defeated and depressed and I didn’t want to sleep with my husband.” The posts, Cardi added, also made her feel unworthy of being a mother to her daughter Kulture, and caused her to develop fatigue, anxiety, weight loss and migraines. She told the judge that she eventually sought therapy to help her cope with her feelings.
The libel trial began on Monday (Jan. 10) and stems from the lawsuit Cardi filed against Tasha K in 2019. In the suit, she alleged that the blogger was trying to harm her reputation with a “malicious campaign” that included claims she contracted sexually transmitted diseases, used cocaine and “fucked herself with beer bottles on fucking stripper stages.”
“Only an evil person could do that shit,” Cardi B said of the blogger’s actions. When denying allegations she contracted herpes, she mentioned the claims were extremely harmful as they resulted in disparaging comments and questions under a social media post of her kissing her daughter. She eventually broke into tears amid her emotional testimony.
Following reports of Cardi’s once-suicidal thoughts and her breakdown in the Georgia courtroom, fans of the Bronx native took to social media to show her some love and support.
“We love you Cardi,” wrote one user. “It was such a tough moment for you to be going through all that shit. As pure-hearted and loving woman as you are. We always got you.”
“Knowing that Cardi broke down in tears all because of this disgusting woman spreading lies just anger’s me so much,” another fan tweeted. “We love you Cardi.”
The phrase “We Love You Cardi” has since become a trending topic. See more supportive tweets below.
