The legendary Robert Glasper has returned to celebrate the success of his Black Radio series by releasing its official third installment. Arriving alongside the announcement is new single “Black Superhero” featuring Killer Mike, BJ The Chicago Kid and Big K.R.I.T. The official music video. Shot in Los Angeles and directed by award-winning Director/Filmmaker, Charlie Buhler, the video takes viewers through a series of vignettes that highlight real-life Black heroes who live in and work for their communities as the powerful lyrics play:
You need a n***a roll like me, military mind stated and I keep a gun and a degree/ You can label me a huey p, made a martyr outta martin, outta Malcolm, out a n***a, I refuse to let these dirty devils make my gullah beggar/ Fuck a hero see oh I will go make heed oh for my people/ Give me liberty or death that is my credo not my ego
Glasper also shared some reflections about the song and his journey: “I couldn’t think of a better way to celebrate the 10 year anniversary of Black Radio than by releasing Black Radio 3. Hopefully, it inspires more to come.”
In more exciting news, the artists are also set to hit The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Jan. 17th for a special MLK Day performance from Robert Glasper for “Black Superhero.”
The 4x Grammy and Emmy winning artist, composer and producer made history with Black Radio as the first album to debut in the top 10 of 4 different genre charts simultaneously: Hip Hop, R&B, Urban Contemporary, Jazz and Contemporary Jazz, as did the follow-up album Black Radio 2. A few years ago, Robert Glasper dropped an album titled Fuck Yo Feelings, which boasted 19 tracks and additional features from Yasiin Bey, Cordae, Rapsody, SiR, Herbie Hancock, Bilal, and more.
