A third suspect has been charged in connection to the fatal shooting of Young Dolph.
According to WGN 9, Shundale Barnett is facing charges of accessory after the fact for helping Justin Johnson while he was on the run from authorities. Barnett was a passenger in the car that was driven by Johnson when he was apprehended on Tuesday (Jan. 11). He is also being held in Indiana and will be extradited back to Memphis.
U.S. Marshal Tyreece Miller said they acquired more than 500 tips after they announced that a $15,000 reward was possible for information leading to Johnson’s arrest. “We went to Indianapolis, Dallas, Houston, Atlanta, and Hampton, Virginia checking different addresses, following up on tips,” Miller said.
As REVOLT previously reported, Johnson and Cornelius Smith are accused of being the gunmen who took Dolph’s life last November while he was purchasing cookies in his hometown. Johnson, who goes by the rap moniker Straight Drop, is facing several charges, including first-degree murder and theft of property between $10,000 and $60,000. He also has an outstanding warrant for violation of federal release related to a weapons conviction.
Smith was arrested on Dec. 9 on an auto-theft warrant that involved the white Mercedes Benz that was used in the “Preach” rapper’s shooting. On Tuesday, he was extradited from DeSoto County Jail to Shelby County Jail on charges of first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, employment of a firearm with intent to commit a felony, unlawfully carrying or possessing a weapon and theft of property between $10,000 and $60,000.
Memphis Police Chief CJ Davis said the investigation into Dolph’s killing is ongoing and it is likely there will be more suspects. She also said that authorities do not have a motive for the shooting at this time.
