DJ Kay Slay is still battling the Coronavirus, but his brothers have revealed a promising update about the legendary DJ’s recovery. On Tuesday (Jan. 11), Kay Slay’s brothers Kwame and Michael Grayson told HipHopDX that he just recently opened his eyes for the first time since being hospitalized with the deadly virus.
“The doctors told us and mom that his eyes just opened today,” Kwame told the outlet on Tuesday. “It will be a long time before he’s released from the hospital, but a long time is better than no time.”
As reported by REVOLT, Wack 100 first revealed to fans that Kay Slay was suffering heavily from COVID-19 and needed help from a ventilator to breathe.
“Pray for my brotha [DJ Kay Slay]. It’s not looking good,” the longtime music manager wrote on Instagram at the time. “He might be mad at me for this, those that know Slay, but he needs all the support he can get.”
Concerned by the news, fans and former collaborators sent Slay their well wishes and prayers. Thankfully, on Thursday (Jan. 6), the New York veteran’s brother revealed he had been taken off the ventilator and was slowly on his way to recovering.
“He’s definitely not going to die,” Kwame told HipHopDX at the time. “That right there… I’m not going to lie, I was jumping around. I was definitely happy. Kay Slay is a private dude and he didn’t tell anybody in the hospital who he was, and we was kinda getting average treatment. When they found out who he was, that’s when everybody stepped up the treatment.”
“He was slowly fading away, but God didn’t let that happen,” he added. “Everything in time and when they found out who he was, they got him powered up again. So, he’s up and going. He’s like in a recovery state, but he’s definitely not going to die. You can trust me on that.”
We at REVOLT are continuing to wish DJ Kay Slay a speedy recovery.
