After taking the stages at Rolling Loud California and the Larry Hoover benefit concert, Kanye West may be gearing for another big performance. According to Variety, the Chicago star — who officially goes by Ye — has been tapped as a headliner for the 2022 Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival. He will reportedly close the third and final night of the show following headlining performances from Billie Eilish and another artist who has not yet been disclosed. The news comes after Travis Scott — who was originally slated to head the show — was pulled from the music fest.
Ye is no stranger to the Coachella stage. In April 2011, months after the release of My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, he headlined the event alongside Kings of Leon, Arcade Fire and The Strokes. Much like his forthcoming performance, he closed out the event with an iconic set that included songs from the album, other classic hits like “Good Life” and a surprise appearance from Pusha T.
West returned to the festival with his Sunday Service choir in 2019 and blessed fans with a special Easter Day performance that featured singles “Jesus Walks” and “Ultralight Beams,” and ended with a prayer from the late DMX. Per Billboard, the Jesus is King emcee may also try to set up a second Sunday Service performance following the buzz from the choir’s first time at Coachella.
After several delays due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2022 Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival is slated to make its return on the weekends of April 15-17 and April 22-24. As previously reported by REVOLT, organizers reversed their vaccine mandate and announced that both negative tests and proof of the COVID-19 shot will be accepted for entry. It is not clear whether any updates will be made considering the continuous rise of Omicron variant cases.
