George Floyd’s 4-year-old niece is reportedly in a stable condition after being shot in the torso on New Year’s Day (Jan. 1).
According to KHOU 11, Arianna Delane suffered a punctured lung, punctured liver and three broken ribs after being shot at her South Houston home.
A family friend told KHOU that Arianna underwent emergency surgery following the hospital and is now recovering. The individual also told the outlet that she’s in a stable condition and walked for the first time since the shooting on Tuesday (Jan. 4).
As reported by REVOLT, the little girl was asleep in her bed when at least one person fired several shots into her home, where four adults and another child were also asleep. The shooting occurred just before 3 a.m. local time at an apartment complex on the 3300 block of Yellowstone Boulevard.
On Tuesday afternoon, Houston Police Chief Troy Finner released a statement about the ongoing investigation into the incident.
“The investigation into the senseless shooting of the 4-year-old female at 3322 Yellowstone Boulevard on Saturday morning (January 1) continues to move forward,” he said.
“I am aware and have concerns regarding the delayed response time in this incident and have initiated an Internal Affairs investigation,” he continued. “I ask the city to continue to pray for the child’s full recovery and assist in providing information that would lead to the arrest of the suspect or suspects responsible.”
The child’s father, Derrick Delane, said her mother rushed her to the hospital after the shooting.
“My daughter jumped up and said she had been hit,” he told Click 2 Houston. “I [saw] the blood, the bleeding, and I grabbed her.”
Thankfully, Derrick said his daughter is “healing very fast.”
“The last time I checked on her she was breathing on her own. She was doing really great,” he added.
