Cardi B is reacting to the news of Rogel Aguilera-Mederos’ commutation.
On Thursday (Dec. 30), the Invasion of Privacy emcee took to Instagram to share her thoughts about the latest update in the truck driver’s case. “OMMMMGGGG YEEESSSS.” she wrote alongside a screenshot of ABC13’s report. Though she admitted that the new term is still lengthy, she expressed that it’s way better than the previous sentence.
“Ten years is a lot, but fuck it’s not 110,” she said, sending words of appreciation to all those who helped with the sentence reduction. “I’m so proud of everyone!”
As REVOLT previously reported, Aguilera-Mederos was convicted of 27 counts, including first-degree assault, in connection to a car accident that ended with four deaths and several injuries. Despite explaining that his brakes had failed, he was sentenced to 110 years. Colorado Gov. Jared Polis granted him clemency on Thursday following a public outcry regarding the length of his term.
“I am writing to inform you that I am granting your application for a commutation,” the governor wrote. “After learning about the highly atypical and unjust sentence in your case, I am commuting your sentence to 10 years and granting you parole eligibility on December 30, 2026.”
“The length of your 110-year sentence is simply not commensurate with your actions, nor with penalties handed down to others for similar crimes,” Polis added. “There is an urgency to remedy this unjust sentence and restore confidence in the uniformity and fairness of our criminal justice system, and consequently I have chosen to commute your sentence now.”
Following the announcement, Kim Kardashian, who recently passed her bar exam, also expressed her excitement about the news. “Thank you @Govofco for taking action to reduce Mr. Aguilera-Mederos’s sentence!” she wrote. “While his new sentence is 10 years, he will now have an opportunity to come home in five years and be with his son and wife.”
