Safaree isn’t impressed with Kanye West’s current wardrobe and Twitter has a lot to say about it. On Thursday (Dec. 30), the “Love & Hip Hop” actor claimed Kanye used to be a fashion icon, but said the way the Donda rapper has dressed for the past two years “bothers” him.
“I’ve always been a Kanye fan, but I really hate how he’s been dressing these last 2 years,” Safaree wrote on Twitter. “He use[d] to be inspiration with clothes and jewelry. Now this guy just wears hoodies and black gloves and it bothers me.”
Safaree accompanied the tweet with several laughing emojis, but the opinion was no joking matter to some Twitter users.
“Well he’s still the inspiration because these companies are knocking off his GAP jacket. Just because he doesn’t wear tacky furs like you do, doesn’t mean he isn’t a fashion icon,” one Kanye fan replied. “Icons do what they want, you do what you can.”
Others teased, “You wore a jean vest, Safaree.”
After The Shade Room re-posted the tweet on Instagram, a new group of commenters weighed in.
“Says the guy with no clothing like, no clothing endorsements, and absolutely no fashion sense,” Tank wrote.
While style is in the eye of the beholder, Kanye has enjoyed several success in the fashion world. This fall, the 44-year-old unveiled a collection of Yeezy Gap hoodies, which quickly sold out. This summer, he also released a puffer jacket in three colors as part of his collaborated line.
As reported by REVOLT, Ye signed a 10-year deal with Gap last year, which the company’s CEO said has already proven to be lucrative.
“We’ve had a much younger customer [since the partnership],” CEO Sonia Syngal told CNN in August. “We’ve had 75 percent of those customers being new to the Gap brand.”
Of course, Kanye has also collaborated with brands like Nike and Adidas; worked alongside the late Virgil Abloh; and interned at fashion houses such as Fendi.
