The arrangements for Kangol Kid‘s funeral have been announced. The rapper’s life and legacy will be celebrated on Sunday, Jan. 2 at the Polygon Club in Brooklyn. The likes of fellow U.T.F.O. member Mix Master Ice, LL Cool J, KRS-One, Slick Rick, Kool DJ Red Alert, Kurtis Blow, Sway Calloway, Roxanne Shanté, Melle Mel and Grandmaster Dee of Whodini are expected to attend.
The homegoing service will come after a viewing and prayers that will take place earlier in the day at the Caribe Funeral Home; a repast is scheduled for that afternoon at Brooklyn’s Caribe Banquet Hall. The following day (Jan. 3), Kangol Kid will be laid to rest at Clover Leaf Memorial Park in Woodbridge, New Jersey.
As REVOLT previously, Kangol passed away peacefully on Dec. 18 less than a year after he learned he had Stage 4 colon cancer.
“That’s the last thing you want to hear… when those words were said to me, I fell out inside,” he said of his cancer diagnosis. “I stood up after awhile, spoke to my friends who kept my spirits up through all of this and my mentality just changed, like, ‘You gotta fight this.’”
The rapper had 10 inches of colon removed in March and was admitted to the hospital a second time in October for cancer-related complications. At the time, he thanked his supporters for holding him down as he underwent surgery.
“Please forgive me for not returning calls and more,” he wrote. “Things have become and are becoming a little more difficult than imagined. I’ve been admitted again for complications related to my condition. Thank you to those who have been instrumental in my latest ordeal. Your actions have been well received and greatly appreciated. I am blessed to have you by my side through this. I love you all. ~Kang. #kangolkid #kangol #utfo #roxanneroxanne #fuckcancer.”
