Pooh Shiesty isn’t allowing his current predicament to stop his forward movement. Over the holiday weekend, the Memphis star unveiled a five-minute freestyle titled “Federal Contraband,” a TP808-produced effort that sees him reflecting on his troubles while addressing both supporters and detractors — all via a phone recording as he sits behind bars:
“I got locked, niggas stopped doin’ shit, they wouldn’t if I was ’round, like they happy I went federal, see what that hate about, I’ma make sure your fingers get cut off since you count me out, my granddaddy passed away the other day, I just found out, shit crazy, rest in peace, you’ll forever live through me, blrrrd, ayy, I’m goin’ through too much smoke at once, prayin’ to God can help me clear it…”
Following notable appearances alongside Gucci Mane, this year has seen Pooh Shiesty become a New 1017 frontrunner via his debut LP Shiesty Season, a 17-track body of work that saw additional appearances from Gucci, Lil Durk, BIG30, 21 Savage, Foogiano, Tay Keith, and more — months later, he would upgrade Shiesty Season with a Spring Deluxe edition that added on four songs and collaborations alongside Lil Baby and G Herbo. All-in-all, the album landed the “Back In Blood” rapper a top ten placement on the Billboard 200 thanks to an impressive 62,000 album equivalent units sold during its first week of release, later crossing the Gold-certified mark.
Unfortunately, trouble soon followed Pooh Shiesty by way of an arrest in connection to a shooting. Despite his incarceration, he has continues to stay positive in updates to his fans — one message in particular has even seen him pledging to quit lean:
“My skin glowing since I been sober can’t go back to sipping lean, my mindset got different, I’m in prison before I’m sentenced they don’t even kno the life det I’m Living Dey trynna paint the pic of a menace… FreeTheBiggest.”
