Back in February, Lucky Daye gifted the R&B world with Table For Two, another well-received effort that featured Joyce Wrice, Queen Naija, Ari Lennox, Mahalia, Tiana Major9, and Yebba over seven songs. He keeps the momentum going by dropping off one more live performance before the year closes out. For the lovely Yebba-assisted cut “How Much Can a Heart Take,” the two joined forces with the sounds of a talented live band to deliver a live rendition of the fan-favorite lyrics:
You’ve been channelin’ energy sendin’ it to me, right on the line (The line, the line, the line)/ Ooh yeah, you know you’re fine and somehow you find the time to wine and dine your bitches better than me
Ooh, this shit is trash but I’ma give it right on back ’cause that’s what I’ve been gettin’ from you, ooh, ooh/ Yeah, lately, you’ve been out on the block actin’ crazy, doin’ your thing and then you turn around and blame it on the moon/ Just ’cause you’re feelin’ blue, how much can a heart take
It’s been a couple of years since Lucky Daye released his debut album Painted, a critically acclaimed body of work that saw 13 soulful cuts from the New Orleans singer-songwriter. The following year, he would upgrade Painted with a deluxe edition, adding on six additional songs and collaborations alongside Chronixx, MediSun, Victoria Monet, and Babyface.
Outside of his own work, he’s also contributed his voice to releases like Masego, Alex Isley, and Jack Dine’s “Good & Plenty (Remix),” Sinéad Harnett’s “Anymore,” Adekunle Gold’s “Sinner,” IDK’s “Puerto Rico,” VanJess’ “Slow Down,” Earth, Wind & Fire’s “You Want My Love,” Sevyn Streeter’s “Feelz,” and Khalid’s “Retrograde.”
