After JAY-Z claimed that no one can see him on the Verzuz stage, fans have been wracking their brains to come up with suggestions of potential contenders fit enough to go against the Brooklyn rapper. Among the few emcees mentioned was Detroit’s own Eminem, a name that incited an ensuing debate on social media.
Fans of Hov laughed off the suggestion.
“I’ve seen some bogus names listed as ppl that can beat JAY-Z in a VERZUZ..Dude just said Eminem…,” said Twitter user @EnterDaDome, who admitted that he is also a supporter of the 8 Mile star.
@HendrixMonae called on people to “cut the shit” and tell the truth about their musical palettes. “Y’all know yall aren’t bumping Eminem like you do JAY-Z,” she penned in a tweet.
Eminem fans argued that he would beat JAY in a Verzuz battle.
“Not just cause I am a stan but… definitely Eminem,” wrote @TheRelapseQueen, naming the “Lose Yourself” rapper as her choice to win the Verzuz. “JAY-Z is one of the GOATs but I believe Eminem’s legacy speaks louder than JAY-Z’s.”
Others mentioned that Em outperformed Hov on “Renegade.”
“People that are laughing about Eminem getting in a Verzuz battle with JAY-Z are right tbh,”@ShadyTimes tweeted. “All Eminem has to do is play ‘Renegade’ and it’s over.”
While many people chose between the 4:44 star and Em, neutral music fans highlighted that both emcees are talented.
“Eminem and JAY-Z are both great rappers, end of the debate,” wrote @olslowboy.
@Southpawers added that the status and skills of both Hov and Em are what makes for a great Verzuz.
“People saying, ‘Eminem can’t touch JAY-Z’ are wrong. People saying, ‘Eminem wins easy’ are wrong,” he tweeted. “Eminem VS JAY-Z might be the biggest and the closest contest ever and the only way to see the winner is to ACTUALLY do it. I’m not into Verzuz shit, but this will be iconic.”
Eminem is the latest name to be brought up in conversations about a hypothetical Verzuz against JAY-Z. Lil Wayne and Busta Rhymes were also suggested.
