Kevin Durant clowns Skip Bayless.
Shortly after KD and the undermanned Brooklyn Nets beat the Toronto Raptors on Tuesday night (Dec. 14), Bayless jumped onto Twitter to lob some praise KD’s way. Of course, in typical Skip fashion, the tweet served as another thinly veiled way to discredit Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James.
“The Best Player on the Planet was at it again tonight in Brooklyn, going assassin in overtime for the COVID-rocked Nets,” Bayless wrote. “Nothing like Kevin Durant. You watch, Bron?”
In a quote tweet response, KD had some words for Skip. They weren’t exactly friendly. “I really don’t like u,” the NBA champion wrote in a brief message.
Naturally, Skip began trending within minutes of this interaction as the internet got a bunch of jokes off. Considering Skip’s history of implicit shade, it’s not hard to see why.
For years now, the former First Take co-host made a habit of linking seemingly unrelated basketball subplots to whatever’s just happened in the NBA world. Those plot points usually involve phrases like “clutch gene” and or some way to say that LeBron, or someone else, doesn’t measure up to another player. While KD doesn’t get into his reasoning for not liking Skip, it wouldn’t be a stretch to say it’s got something to do with that — even if Skip was technically giving him a compliment.
KD’s comments arrived shortly after he delivered a dominant performance for the Nets, who were missing James Harden and six other players after they were entered into the NBA’s health and safety protocols for health issues related to COVID-19. Considering that they were already missing Kyrie Irving, who’s missed every game this season because he refuses to take any COVID-19 vaccines, the Nets were severely undermanned. Luckily, KD is still one of the best players in the world, and his 34 points, 11 assists and 13 rebounds helped them take home the W regardless.
