Russ is on a roll. Just last week, the Atlanta artist-producer unveiled his latest project CHOMP 2, the official sequel to last year’s CHOMP EP. This go ’round, fans get to enjoy 14 tracks with additional features from The Game, Westside Gunn, Snoop Dogg, DJ Premier, Jay Electronica, Wale, Big Sean, Conway the Machine, and more. Presumably in promotion of the new release, Russ made a visit to the L.A. Leakers and decided to bless the viewers with a top tier freestyle over OutKast‘s iconic instrumental for “Aquemini.” If there were any doubters prior to this moment, the “What They Want” talent made sure to prove them wrong with bars about his current status in the game:
“There’s not a day that I don’t show up, I don’t need a stand-in, haters see me walk on water, say it’s ’cause I can’t swim, y’all wonder why y’all can’t win, look at how y’all think, so if you can’t be the captain, you want all of us to sink? Man I need all of us in sync, that’s the mission, you either see the vision or division, which one is it? Hope you listen to the truth, not the poison that the game produces, insecurities from fame that I attained through music, but I don’t make excuses…”
Russ‘ CHOMP EP arrived in November of last year with five songs and collaborations alongside KXNG Crooked, Ab-Soul, DJ Premier, Busta Rhymes, Benny the Butcher, and Black Thought. Several months prior, the “Losin Control” rapper-producer liberated his last official LP SHAKE THE SNOW GLOBE, his last under his partnership with Columbia. Including its subsequent deluxe upgrade, SHAKE THE SNOW GLOBE saw 21 cuts and assists from Ty Dolla $ign, Westside Boogie, Rick Ross, Kiana Ledé, Devin the Dude, BIA, and more. Since the release of the aforementioned album and EP, Russ has been feeding fans with loose singles on essentially a weekly basis, including “Ugly” with Lil Baby, “Bankrupt,” “Small Talk,” “Status,” “Rather Be Myself,” “Satisfy,” “Can’t Let Go,” and “Seduce” with Capella Grey.
