Masego has just joined the plethora of artists who are currently sharing their own offerings to spread some holiday cheer. With his freshly released “Favorite Tings” visual, the Grammy-nominated artist puts his trap jazz spin on the classic Rodgers and Hammerstein song, which was first heard in The Sound of Music and has since become a holiday staple. In “Favorite Tings,” he takes inspiration from the iconic lyrics, but of course, puts his own spin on the lyrics:
Listen, raindrops and roses and whiskers and kittens, bright copper kettles and warm woolen mittens/ Brown paper packages tied up with strings, these are a few of my favorite things
My favorite things, these are, these are, thing, thing, things, This and That and Thing 1 and Thing 2, eh/ Cream-colored ponies and crisp apple strudels, uh, doorbells and sleigh bells
His S tudying Abroad project has amassed over two billion combined global streams in his career to date, and recently earned him his first Grammy nomination for Best Progressive R&B Album.
Studying Abroad follows Masego’s official debut album Lady Lady, which included features from SiR, Tiffany Gouché, De’ Wayne Jackson, and FKJ. The TrapHouseJazz singer certainly hasn’t been mute since then, as he dropped off plenty of appearances on singles in 2020 alone, including “Golden Ticket” with Brasstracks and Common, “Good & Plenty” with Alex Isley and Jack Dine, “Stickin’” with Sinead and VanJess, along with his own singles “Veg Out,” and “King’s Rant.”
More recently, Masego can be heard dishing out plenty of assists within the last few weeks. He made an appearance on Sinead Harnett’s brand new Ready Is Always Too Late project alongside VanJess for the song “Stickin’.” ‘Sego also tapped in with ELHAE for their collab track “My City.”
