It’s officially December, which means the holiday songs are back in rotation with full force. Leon Bridges is the latest to spread some holiday cheer as he unveils a stunning cover of Marvin Gaye’s “Purple Snowflakes” song. Initially recorded as an Amazon Music exclusive, the new cover similarly follows Summer Walker’s version of “I Want To Come Home For Christmas” as well. In Leon’s new visual, he recites Gaye’s beloved lyrics:
Softly they fall, where do they go? (purple snowflakes)/ Cover the ground, without a sound (gentle snowflakes)/ Fall from the sky, before your eyes (it’s so thrilling)/ Blankets of white, brighten the night (such a feeling)
They seem to say, that our love is, softly they fall, where do they go? (purple snowflakes)/ Cover the ground, without a sound (gentle snowflakes)/ Fall from the sky, before your eyes (it’s so thrilling)/ Blankets of white, brighten the night (such a feeling)
Back in July, Leon Bridges proudly unveiled his third album Gold-Diggers Sound. Prior to its release, Bridges took a moment to explain the origin of the album’s title, which was named after the environment he was in that inspired this project. “Gold-Diggers Sound, my third full-length album is out this Friday, July 23rd!” he excitedly writes. “It was birthed from late nights at the Los Angeles studio, hotel and bar of the same name where I lived, worked and drank over the course of two years..”
In October of last year, Leon Bridges tapped in with one of R&B’s favorites Lucky Daye for their “All About You” collab. For the track, they “set out to bring back the energy of some of the ‘90s R&B greats we grew up listening to,” he said via press release. Leon Bridges’ last full-length release was Good Thing back in 2018, and he has released a slew of singles since then like this year’s “Sweeter” featuring Terrace Martin, and also his four-track collaboration project Texas Sun with Khruangbin.
