Today, Kevin Gates decided to bless the masses with a new freestyle titled “Talking To My Scale,” which sees him putting his own spin on the late Young Dolph‘s PAPER ROUTE iLLUMINATi standout of the same name. As such, the Baton Rouge emcee uses the DJ Squeeky-produced instrumental to deliver hard-hitting bars reminiscent of his Luca Brasi series:
“I want my team here right now, you think I don’t miss em’? You think I don’t wish I was with em’? You think I don’t wish they was out’chere runnin’ up millions? But they somewhere sitting in prison, don’t really do jewelry, Gold Rollie’s Presidential, this watch sentimental, talk to my scale, this clock got credentials, zip lock in a digi, caught us a sale, this spot still in business, this box go to Memphis, Benz drive to Virginia, Baltimore quarter shipment, D.C. redistribute…”
The track also sees a simple and straight-to-the-point clip (courtesy of TeamxIncome) that finds Kevin Gates delivering his bars in a dimly lit studio. All-in-all, the overall product should more than satisfy day one supporters and more recent fans alike.
It’s been several months since Kevin Gates dropped his latest body of work Only the Generals, Pt. II, the sequel to 2019’s Only the Generals Gon Understand. His last official LP — the 17-track I’m Him, his second — made landfall back in 2019. That now-Gold album both landed Gates within the top five of the Billboard 200 and his fourth top ten entry overall thanks to 72,000 album equivalent units sold during its first week of release. Currently, he’s said to be working on an official follow-up, which is expected to be the long-awaited Khaza.
Until that arrives, you can press play on Kevin Gates‘ “Talking To My Scale” video below. Hopefully, we’ll hear more about Khaza sooner than later.
