It’s looking like Russ is putting in his submission for best project of the year with his latest. Today (Dec. 8), the Atlanta-based talent has released CHOMP 2, the sequel to 2020’s CHOMP that sees 14 songs and some high-level contributions from Westside Gunn, Jadakiss, Snoop Dogg, Ghostface Killah, Big Sean, Wale, Mozzy, and more.
One immediate standout is the Harry Fraud-produced “Top of the World,” which features none other than Jay Electronica and features some of the oft-elusive emcee’s best bars to date:
“Entirely off the record, the messiahs of society quietly walk with leopards, and when they plug into the Matrix, the babies have dreams of makin’ love on a spaceship, you can hear atheists cries in the sub when the bass hit, the way that God brought me up from nothin’ was quite miraculous, the way I navigated the Headless Horsemen and Draculas, was otherworldly, the whites of my eyes is mother pearly, the technique I use when I speak has covered it surely…”
Russ‘ CHOMP EP arrived in November of last year with five songs and collaborations alongside KXNG Crooked, Ab-Soul, DJ Premier, Busta Rhymes, Benny the Butcher, and Black Thought. Several months prior, the “Losin Control” rapper-producer liberated his last official LP SHAKE THE SNOW GLOBE, his last under his partnership with Columbia. Including its subsequent deluxe upgrade, SHAKE THE SNOW GLOBE saw 21 cuts and assists from Ty Dolla $ign, Westside Boogie, Rick Ross, Kiana Ledé, Devin the Dude, BIA, and more. Since the release of the aforementioned album and EP, Russ has been feeding fans with loose singles on essentially a weekly basis — “Ugly” with Lil Baby, “Bankrupt,” “Small Talk,” “Status,” “Rather Be Myself,” “Satisfy,” “Can’t Let Go,” “Seduce” with Capella Grey, and “Losin Control, Pt. 2” are only a sampling of what’s made landfall.
Enjoy Russ‘ CHOMP 2.
