It’s been a couple of years since Lucky Daye released his debut album Painted, a critically acclaimed body of work that saw 13 soulful cuts from the New Orleans singer-songwriter. The following year, he would upgrade Painted with a deluxe edition, adding on six additional songs and collaborations alongside Chronixx, MediSun, Victoria Monet, and Babyface.
Back in February, Daye kept his momentum going with Table For Two, another well-received effort that featured Joyce Wrice, Queen Naija, Ari Lennox, Mahalia, Tiana Major9, and Yebba over seven songs. Outside of his own work, he’s also contributed his voice to releases like Masego, Alex Isley, and Jack Dine’s “Good & Plenty (Remix),” Sinéad Harnett’s “Anymore,” Adekunle Gold’s “Sinner,” IDK’s “Puerto Rico,” VanJess’ “Slow Down,” Earth, Wind & Fire’s “You Want My Love,” Sevyn Streeter’s “Feelz,” and — just this month — Khalid’s “Retrograde.”
Currently, Daye is getting the masses ready for his official sophomore LP, which he revealed would be titled “CandyDrip” on social media:
“Two years ago I released my first studio album for me. It was an important turning point in my life. I can never thank you enough but I’m ready for something new. You ready?”
He also unveiled the title track from said release, which sees production from D’Mile and is centered around Daye‘s infatuation with a special somebody:
“I can’t keep up the pace, she got me out my ways, I eat on, put it on my plate, honey, you be up to the same shame, same old, can you speak up tomorrow? I wake you up for talk, baby, you’re the wave, maybe you’re the way to divine, better like wine in the nighttime, a perfect design, and where you go, I wanna go down deeper into your shine, oh, I, can we hope high? We running out of time, ooh, you better speak now, speak now…”
