Charlamagne Tha God has ruffled feathers with his honest opinions, but if there were one celebrity he could make amends with, it would be Nicki Minaj. During a recent interview with sports analyst and former NBA star Jalen Rose, the radio personality revealed that he would like for him and Nicki to put their differences aside.
“What celebrity would I like to make amends with? Probably Nicki Minaj,” Charlamagne said before recalling their past friendship and its demise.
“Me and Nicki used to be super, we used to be really cool,” he said. “Yeah, I was very vocal about not liking the ‘Anaconda’ record back in the day and, yeah, definitely, probably Nicki. I got a lotta respect for Nicki. What Nicki has done is unprecedented. She revitalized female hip hop over the past decade.”
“All of these new artists, every single one of ’em from [Cardi B] to [Megan Thee Stallion], it’s because of Nicki,” he continued. “Nicki opened that lane again. Yeah, probably Nicki.”
As Charlamagne mentioned, his friendship with the Queens emcee came to an end after he admitted he wasn’t a fan of her 2014 hit “Anaconda.” He previously revealed that she unfollowed him on Twitter shortly after and vowed to never return to “The Breakfast Club” again.
“Me and Nicki Minaj, I got mad love for Nicki Minaj even though she ain’t fucking with me right now,” Charlamagne said during a past episode of his “Brilliant Idiots” podcast.“I know she got upset when I said I thought ‘Anaconda is corny,’ My exact synopsis on “Anaconda” when it first came out was ‘I’m not feeling this record. It’s not for me. It’s for girls. It’s for kids. It’s for people that like to shake their ass,” the TV host explained. “I said when the video comes out, I’ll probably appreciate the song more. But I said this song is going to work. I just think it’s corny. That’s what I said. He said that Nicki was also upset when he said Iggy Azalea deserved to win the Best Female Hip Hop Artist over her at the 2014 BET Awards.
