A week from now, moviegoers will be able to check out the sports drama film National Champions, which stars Stephan James, J.K. Simmons, and Uzo Aduba and will center on a college quarterback to decided to hold a players’ strike just prior to an important game. Eagle-eyed viewers of the film’s trailer will also catch a cameo appearance from French Montana, who will appear as himself — in addition to busting out some acting chops, the NYC star has also contributed to the soundtrack with “If I Go Down,” a Breyan Isaac-produced offering that matches the overall plot with bars about knowing your value and standing your ground if said value isn’t being met:
“What is your price? What will it cost to toss all your morals aside? Piece of the pie, somethin’ foreign to drive, what would you put on the line? They say they can guarantee, all the money you need, if you tradin’ your soul first, when the money ain’t egal, bring out the evil in people, what is your soul worth? Let us pray, father forgive ’em ’cause they do not know what they’ve done…”
“If I Go Down” comes mere weeks after French liberated his fourth studio LP They Got Amnesia, a 21-track body of work that saw additional contributions from Rick Ross, Kodak Black, Pop Smoke, Lil Durk, Doja Cat, Fivio Foreign, Ty Dolla $ign, Moneybagg Yo, and more. As revealed on on the Diddy-assisted opener “ICU,” the main theme of said album spawned from French’s health issues and subsequent hospitalization that occurred a couple of years ago:
“I just heard some crazy shit, Chinx just told me you had a fucking heart attack or OD’d or some shit like that, like you up in critical condition…”
