It’s been more than a year since NSG released their sophomore mixtape Roots, an 18-track body of work that saw additional features from Randy Valentine, Chip, and Tion Wayne. Since then, the East London collective have continued to deliver with loose cuts like “Kate Winslet” with Unknown T, “Drunk Guitar (Remix)” with Potter Payper, “After OT Bop” with Backroad Gee, “Colonization,” “Petite,” and “I Don’t Mind” — they’ve also contributed to songs like Nines’ “Airplane Mode,” Blanco’s “Surveillance,” and Shaybo’s “Don’t Play With Me.” Currently, they’re preparing to release a short EP titled HEADLINER next week (Dec. 9).
Last week, NSG added to the aforementioned with the 4PLAY-produced “Only God Can Just Me,” a collaboration alongside Birmingham star Mist that sees them rapping and harmonizing about haters, current wins, and street life:
“I woke up, first thing, I took a shot, ’cause in this life, you gotta takе your shots, I took a loss, but I’m still smilin’, I made it, but I’m still strivin’, came to beg, but we still fried him, after all the fuckery, she still want me, I’m a fuck boy, baby, please, forgive me, in this life, only God can judge me…”
“Only God Can Just Me” also comes with a matching visual courtesy of Kevin Hudson and NSG‘s own Kruddz, and keeps with the continuing story laid out in previous clips — specifically, the plotting and scheming from a detractor seen in “Petite.” Following that individual’s unfortunate beating, things switch to shots of the artists armed with some serious artillery, confessions and choir-singing in a church, an interrogation, and subsequent shootout that leaves someone badly hurt. You’ll really need to enjoy all of their latest videos to truly understand the cinematic action taking place throughout.
