Back in September, Russ unveiled his self-produced cut “Utah Freestyle,” one of the more recent in a series of weekly drops that the Atlanta-based star has been blessing his fans with all year. Much like his more hip hop-oriented releases, “Utah Freestyle” sees him boasting about his success, referencing past JAY-Z quotes in regards to owning his masters, and more:
“I’ve been balancin’ my chakras in the mountains out in Utah, I know I’m the greatest, that’s the energy I move off, I don’t even gotta play the game like Luol to still get paid more than you all, I might buy a new loft just to entertain hoes, I rarely fuck with white chicks, but shout out to the Wayans bros, every woman’s beautiful, I’m just givin’ personal stats, a real boss, I fund it from my personal stash…”
Just before December arrived, Russ unveiled a new visual for “Utah Freestyle” that he co-directed alongside Shaq. Outside of switching between color and black-and-white, the clip keeps things pretty simple with shots of Russ in front of a Rolls-Royce, some eye candy silhouettes (including one with a couple of dogs), and a pile of massive diamonds.
Another big standout from “Utah Freestyle” is an ending line that confirms the forthcoming release of CHOMP 2 — it’s predecessor made landfall late last year and saw five tracks with collaborations alongside KXNG Crooked, Ab-Soul, DJ Premier, Busta Rhymes, Benny The Butcher, and Black Thought. 2020 also contained Russ’ last official LP SHAKE THE SNOW GLOBE, his final under Columbia that peaked within the top five of the Billboard 200 and saw contributions from the likes of Rick Ross, Kiana Ledé, Devin The Dude, and BIA. A deluxe edition of SHAKE THE SNOW GLOBE was later release with seven additional songs.
