LeBron James made a laughing stock out of Kyle Rittenhouse and his performance at the witness stand. On Wednesday (Nov. 10), as reports documented the teen’s homicide trial, the baller took time to question a USA Today tweet that suggested Rittenhouse “broke down in tears” as he testified.
“What tears?????” James asked before sparkling in his sense of humor. “I didn’t see one. Man knock it off! That boy ate some lemon heads before walking into court.”
James’ joke came shortly after Rittenhouse detailed the events that preceded his shooting of two people at a Jacob Blake demonstration last year. The testimony, which took place on the second day of the trial, saw the teenaged gunman as he denied visiting the area to look for some trouble.
Instead, Rittenhouse claimed that he’d gone to the scene of the protests to render aid to those in need of medical assistance and later found himself in a situation where he feared for his life.
As Rittenhouse choked back snot, he admitted that there was some tension between him and Joseph Rosenbaum, “the person who attacked me first and threatened to kill me twice.”
“‘If I catch any of you fuckers alone, I’m going to fucking kill you,” Rittenhouse recalled Rosenbaum saying. “He said, ‘I’m going to cut your fucking hearts out.’”
Rosenbaum was one of two people who were fatally shot by Rittenhouse at the Black Lives Matter demonstration. The teen continued to maintain his innocence as he appeared to break down in front of the Wisconsin courtroom.
“I didn’t do anything wrong. I defended myself,” he testified before the judge briefly halted the proceedings. After the recess, he alleged that Anthony Huber attacked him with a skateboard and grabbed his gun before he shot him in self-defense.
