Former Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver Henry Ruggs III could face up to 40 years in prison for the high-speed car crash that left a 23-year-old woman and her dog dead on Tuesday (Nov. 2).
According to The Las Vegas Review-Journal, court documents show prosecutors plan to charge the speedy football player with additional counts of DUI and reckless driving, both resulting in substantial bodily harm, and possession of a firearm while under the influence.
The added felony charges are related to the injuries his longtime girlfriend Rudy Washington suffered in the crash, according to prosecutors. And the misdemeanor stems from the loaded firearm authorities found in Ruggs’ Chevrolet Corvette Stingray.
As REVOLT previously reported, the 22-year-old, who was in the midst of a breakout season for the Raiders, was charged with two felony counts of DUI and reckless driving — both resulting in death.
Per The Las Vegas Review-Journal, prosecutors are expected to file the added charges during a status hearing on Wednesday (Nov. 10) morning. Ruggs has been under house arrest since Wednesday (Nov. 3), after posting a $150,000 bail.
Prosecutors say Ruggs was driving 156 mph and had a blood alcohol level of .161 before he crashed into Las Vegas resident Tina Tintor and her Golden Retriever, Max. Tintor’s family attorney, Farhan Naqvi, said in a statement released last week that “Tina’s tragic loss has devastated her family beyond a grief they could ever comprehend.”
“Family was everything to Tina, and she was the light of her parents’ life. Tina lived in Las Vegas since she was a baby,” the statement said. Ruggs was released from the Raiders less than 24 hours after the crash. Raiders quarterback Derrick Carr said his “heart first goes to the families that are involved” and offered his support for Ruggs during an emotional press conference last week.
“I will always be here for him. That won’t change. I will prove that over the course of time to him, not to anybody else,” Carr said. “… He needs people to love him right now. He’s probably feeling a certain type of way about himself right now and he needs to be loved. If nobody else will do it, I will do it.”
