Sometime last year, it was revealed that Method Man was working on Meth Lab 3: The Rehab, a continuation of 2015’s The Meth Lab and 2018’s Meth Lab 2: The Lithium. The first two installments contained the hard-hitting tracks “2 Minutes Of Your Time” and “Two More Mins,” respectively — just before Halloween, the Long Island to Staten Island legend decided to provide the masses with “The Last 2 Minutes,” a Chris Wellz and Genius On The Beat-produced collaboration alongside battle rapper Iron Mic. As expected, Meth continues to show his sharpened abilities as a veteran emcee over the short offering:
“Pick my city up from the giddy up, new yitty, yup, just like the Metro transit, my city bust, eat him up, since a young city buck, been pretty plus, sex in the city with pretty ladies, yep, pretty much, but, all that pretty ain’t really us, what’s really up, and what is trustworthy if you ain’t worthy to really trust…”
Back in April, Method Man went up against longtime collaborator and friend Redman for a lively “Verzuz” battle. Viewers tuned in to see the two talents celebrating the stoners’ holiday by breaking out some of the biggest and most memorable hits from their catalogs — peers like RZA, EPMD, DJ Kool, and Keith Murray also made memorable appearances throughout. It was also during said “Verzuz” when Red and Meth announced that they were working on Blackout! 3, which is hopefully still very much in the works.
Currently, Harlem’s own Dave East is portraying Meth in the Hulu series “Wu-Tang: An American Saga,” which also stars Ashton Sanders, Shameik Moore, Erika Alexander, and an electrifying TJ Atoms as the late Ol’ Dirty Bastard. In a past interview with GQ, Meth spoke on choosing East to do the honor:
“I saw it as an opportunity for someone like myself … So when I seen Dave’s name in the pot I was like, ‘yeah he’s just like me. He wants to be an actor, fuck it, give him a shot.’”
Press play on “The Last 2 Minutes.”
