Back in April, Toian teamed up with rising star Skillibeng for “Stop The Talking,” which appeared alongside other songs by Popcaan, Vybz Kartel, Lisa Hyper, and Moyann as part of TJ Records’ Dancehall Zone Riddim EP. Today (Sept. 24), the veteran talent celebrates her recent birthday with “Driving Me Crazy,” an infectious, genre-bending offering that sees her singing seductively to a special someone:
“You just keep driving me crazy, and you make me wanna, you know, bend down and touch toes, you see everything now, I’m exposed, heart eyes, X and O’s, you make me wanna, I guess, let’s just get undressed, we so far from a text, we on to the next step, yea, I can tell you know what you’re doing…”
The accompanying video for “Driving Me Crazy” also matches the song’s vibe perfectly. Directed by SevenEight, the clip sees Toian hanging with her girls before engaging in an intimate rendezvous with her love interest, played by none other than fellow artist Masego. Unfortunately, a distraction lands the “Silver Tongue Devil” in hot water, which leads to him pleading with an unbothered Toian near the visual’s end.
Initially going as Toi, the Montego Bay star first made waves on the music scene with “Sunshine,” a song she recorded after meeting with Calibur Entertainment producer Sean Ricketts back in 2010. The success of “Sunshine” led to connections with Konshens and Don Corleon, the latter of whom assisted in the creation of the hit record “You’ll Be Mine” — that track even helped spawn a viral dance dubbed “The Bronx Whine.” To date, Toian has released one project, the five-track EP Retrospect — with that said, it’s hopeful that recent drops like the aforementioned are a sign that a new body of work isn’t too far away.
In a past interview with Nightly Fix, Toian spoke on a car accident that she experienced prior to her career beginnings and took the life of a close friend, as well as how it’s become a driving force for her overall success:
“It was one of the hardest things that I’ve been through in my life … apart from me being so badly injured, losing somebody is not easy … you know, it kinda just brings everything into perspective where it’s like, you, I have a talent and I would want to share that with everybody. It makes me happy, so why not be happy?”
