Social media tributes are pouring in following the tragic passing of Friday star Anthony Johnson. On Monday (Sept. 20), the news of the late actor’s death circulated the internet, rocking the world of Hollywood just days after Michael K. Williams transitioned. Moments later, fans of Johnson declared their love for him on social media and praised him for his comedic genius.
“RIP TO THE LEGEND AJ JOHNSON THANK YOU FOR BRINGING LAUGHTER AND JOY TO THE ENTERTAINMENT INDUSTRY,” wrote one Twitter user. “RIP AJ Johnson (Ezell),” added another user. “Hands down one of the funniest dudes EVER.”
In one post, a person noticed that the 55-year-old actor is the latest star from the Friday franchise to pass away.
“Damn. RIP AJ Johnson,” the social media user penned. “So many people from the Friday cast is gone now. RIP Bernie Mac, RIP John Witherspoon, RIP Zeus Lister, RIP Reynaldo Rey, RIP Yvette Wilson, RIP AJ Johnson.” In another, a fan noted that the world is “losing way too many Black men.”
Among the many tributes was one from Ice Cube, who took the time to issue an apology to Johnson for the difficulties that prevented him from producing another Friday movie.
“Sad to wake up to the news about AJ Johnson passing away,” wrote Cube. “Naturally funny dude who was straight outta Compton at the same time. Sorry I couldn’t bring your character Ezal back to the big screen in Last Friday.”
As REVOLT previously reported, Johnson was rushed to a Los Angeles hospital after he was found “lifeless” at a store earlier this month. There, he was pronounced dead. The cause of death has not yet been released.
