With an endless stream of artists coming into the world of music, it can be hard to get attention. That’s something Mexican rapper Dan Sur won’t have to worry about.
As reported by the New York Post on Friday (Sept. 10), Sur has gotten some golden chains surgically implanted into his scalp. You read that right. In videos he’s uploaded to his TikTo account, you can see him engaging in various antics with his golden hairdo.
In one of the videos, he gives some background on his motivation for his new quasi hairstyle. “The truth is that I wanted to do something different because I see that everyone dyes their hair. I hope not everyone copies me now,” he says in one of the clips, per The Post’s translation.
Sur is far from the first artist to take some serious steps to stand out from the crowd. Earlier this year, Lil Uzi Vert got a pink diamond implanted into his forehead. Recently, Brazil-based rapper Renato de Santa got flesh removed so he could get a “demon smile” carved into his face. Speaking to The Sun, he explained the move.
“My new scarification is inspired by the Japanese legend of Kuchisake-onna – the woman with the cut mouth,” the 41-year-old rapper said of the work, which resemble’s Joker’s smile in The Dark Knight. The subject of the legend is a woman who has her mouth cut from one ear to another, and if you don’t say she’s beautiful, you get killed.
While people from older generations didn’t like de Santa’s body modifications, younger people from around his way loved them. “The kids like it a lot and see me as a superhero,” he said. “They ask how the implants were made and also my eyes.”
