It’s been less than 24 hours since Drake released his long-awaited album Certified Lover Boy and it’s already breaking records. According to Chart Data, the 6 God is now the most-streamed artist in less than 24 hours on Apple Music in 2021. Additionally, his newest LP is Apple Music’s most-streamed album in less than 24 hours this year.
The highly-anticipated album was finally released on Friday (Sept. 3) after multiple delays. The project was originally slated to be released in January 2021, but was pushed back after Drake suffered a leg injury. Last week, the Scorpion emcee announced the official release date for the album by hacking ESPN.
SportsCenter took to Twitter to address the cryptic video that interrupted their programming. “We want to apologize for any interruptions viewers might have experienced during SportsCenter this morning,” the tweet read. “We had some technical difficulties that have since been resolved.”
Earlier this week, several billboards popped up around the world revealing artists who were featured on the album. One billboard, which surfaced in Drizzy’s home city of Toronto, referenced an appearance from Lil Wayne, reading, “Hey Toronto, the best rapper alive signed me in 2009 and is on CLB.”
The 21-track LP, which Drizzy described as “a combination of toxic masculinity and acceptance of truth,” features guest appearances from Travis Scott, Future, Kid Cudi, Rick Ross, JAY-Z, Lil Baby, Lil Durk, Giveon, Young Thug, 21 Savage and more. It also features a spoken word clip from Nicki Minaj on “Papi’s Home” and a segment of an old interview of the late Juice WRLD on “IMY2.”
Following the release of Certified Lover Boy, several of the album’s collaborators and songs began trending on Twitter. By 10 a.m. ET on Friday (Sept. 3), the Lil Baby-assisted “Girls Like Girls” track was No. 1 on Spotify’s Top Hits chart.
Congrats to Drake on all of his success with the album. Check out Chart Data’s tweets below.
