It’s been some time since Dr. Dre released a full-length album, but based on recent moves, it seems as if a project may be on the horizon. Recently, the legendary producer played some of his new music for Xzibit and Diggin’ in the Crates legend Diamond D, who took to Instagram on Monday (Aug. 9) to share his thoughts on the tracks he heard. “@drdre played about 2hrs of straight unreleased heat rocks for me and @xzibit today,” he wrote. “#ondeck shouts out to @focus3dots.”
The news of Xzibit and Diamond D’s private listening session comes on the heels of Grandmaster Flash’s very own visit to Dre’s studio.
Upon hearing the rapper’s unreleased music, he took to Instagram to express his excitement about the album.
“Here in LA doing the Disco Oasis with Nile Rogers tonite,” wrote the founding member of Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five. “I get a call from one of my heroes he invites me to the CRIB he takes me down to the STUDIO he played me a project that will change the game!! Totally incredible, we top off the day for 2hrs talkin about Music, Family Health and Life. Thanks for the Invite Dr Dre.”
Though there’s no confirmation or official announcement about a Dre album, there are no signs that the beat maker has let up on his grind. Since he released his 2015 record Compton, he produced tracks for the likes of Anderson .Paak and Eminem.
In late June, longtime Dre collaborator KXNG Crooked said that he “walked in his studio and saw 146 songs on a big ass list.” Then last week, fans got the opportunity to hear his production on “Glory,” the Kanye West track playing in the background of a Sha’Carri Richardson-starring Beats By Dre ad. As Donda has not yet been released, it’s not clear whether the song — which may reportedly feature Snoop Dogg — will make the final cut.
