It looks like the Los Angeles Lakers could be serious contenders to land the services of Sacramento Kings shooting guard Buddy Hield.

According to a Wednesday night (July 28) report from The Ringer, multiple NBA sources say the Lakers are trying to put together a trade package for Hield that would include their No. 22 overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft, Montrezl Harrell and one of Kyle Kuzma or Kentavious Caldwell-Pope. The draft is tonight.

Reports of the Lakers’ purported efforts to get Hield arrive after a disappointing conclusion to the 2020-2021 NBA season. After winning the 2020 NBA Finals in the Orlando bubble, the Lakers looked like favorites to take home the chip once more. That was before poorly timed injuries to both LeBron James (high ankle sprain) and Anthony Davis (groin strain) helped derail their chances. Nearly two months ago, they lost to the Phoenix Suns in a six-game round one playoff series.

Now, based on reports, the Lakers are looking to fortify their roster with an established talent. Known as one of the most lethal three-point shooters in the league, Buddy Hield averaged 16.6 points, 4.7 rebounds and 3.7 assists for the Kings last year. With his ability to shoot both off the catch or off the dribble, he could offer the Lakers some much-needed spacing while also potentially being a consistent third or fourth scoring option for the squad.

This is far from the first report about reinforcements joining the Lakers through one method or another. Recently, it was reported that Kyle Lowry and DeMar DeRozan were interested in teaming up with the Los Angeles squad. Both were former teammates on the Toronto Raptors, and both are reportedly interested in the prospect of winning championship with the team.

Either way, no one should be surprised if the Lakers make some kind of drastic move by the time the NBA Draft is over tonight.
