If you were watching Conor McGregor and Dustin Poirier fight on Saturday (July 10) night at UFC 264 then you know the bad news by now. While duking it out in the kickboxing ring, McGregor unfortunately suffered a horrendous injury that forced him to end the match, thus crowning Poirier as the event’s winner.
While fighting his opponent, McGregor stepped back in his stance and broke his ankle — though others who were watching said that he broke his leg. The video is very hard to watch because you can clearly see the severe pain that the fighter was in when this moment happened. He even seemed to yell out in pain. If you want to view the incident, you can below in a clip circulating on social media.
Once this happened, a doctor quickly rushed into the ring to check on McGregor before ruling that he was unfit to continue the match. He was only in the first round.
Needless to say, many on social media couldn’t believe their eyes and reacted in disbelief that the fight ended so quickly and abruptly.
While on the floor of the ring, however, McGregor wasn’t letting his injury make him look too pitiful. He shouted on a mic, “This is not over!” When Poirier trolled him by saying that one of his kicks that he checked broke McGregor’s ankle, the injured athlete replied back in frustration, “There was no check!” Watch that below, too.
People on Twitter laughed at this trolling, as well. The jokes and memes were ruthless — yet entertaining.
One fan who’s most likely disappointed that McGregor lost his match up with his opponent is Former President Donald Trump, who was also in attendance. When he made his way inside of the fight’s venture, the crowd even began chanting, “USA!” View that below.
