Although they can be glamorized, when it comes down to it, drugs and alcohol can be pretty dangerous. That’s a thought Jada Pinkett Smith reflects on in the latest episode of “Red Table Talk.”
Speaking with her mother Adrienne and her daughter Willow for a Wednesday (July 7) episode of the show, Jada remembers a time where some bad ecstasy made her pass out while on the set of The Nutty Professor.
“I’m a binger. … When it’s time to go, we gon’ go,” Jada says, reflecting on her partying habits. “I wasn’t the type of person that was drinking every day. I was a weekend party girl. It was like, yo, Thursday to Monday morning, I would go.”
Those habits one day bled into her work life. “That was an eye-opening incident for me, as well,” Jada says. “I had one incident on Nutty Professor. I passed out [in the] makeup trailer. I passed out. I went to work high and it was a bad batch of ecstasy and I passed out. And I told everybody that I … must have had old medication in a vitamin bottle.”
While the ecstasy didn’t disrupt her work plans too much, it clearly stands out as an important memory for Jada. Her story is part of a larger conversation about drug and alcohol abuse.
At another point of the episode, Jada remembers a time she realized that she was drinking too much. She also speaks on the way she tries to avoid hard liquor. For her part, Willow explains the way she manages her own weed intake. The show hosts also have a liver specialist speak on the harmful effects alcohol can have on your body.
