Saturday (June 26) was a night to remember thanks to hip hop legends Soulja Boy and Bow Wow. The two stars hit the Verzuz stage to bring us back to the good old days of the early 2000s when life was easier and name belts were prevalent.
From the jokes that went flying back and forth throughout the night to the classic hits that we 1990s babies will never forget, tonight’s musical showdown was one of — if not — the best of the IG battle series thus far. It was truly great to see Soulja Boy and Bow take the stage and engage in a — somewhat — friendly competition, as they went hit for hit. Between songs, they always remembered to show love to one another, and give each other their well-deserved flowers.
Even Romeo, who was invited by Soulja, pulled up for a surprise appearance. This was the first time Bow Wow and the No Limit kid rapper was seen together in over 20 years. Soulja was, once again, the first to make another historic moment happen!
Though the night was full of love, lyrics and laughs, one somber moment occurred when Bow played “Pop, Lock & Drop It (Remix).” “RIP, Huey,” the rapper said as the track played. As many fans can recall, the “Pop, Lock & Drop It” artist died last year after getting shot outside of a home in his hometown of Missouri. Today, actually, marks the one-year anniversary of his passing.
After Bow played the late star’s hit, many on social media remembered Huey for gifting us with the classic track that we couldn’t stop dancing to during our youth when our knees were younger and in much better shape.
Take a look at some of the many Twitter reactions remembering the late MC and hit classic track below.
