The Capitol rioter who put his feet on House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s desk wants a judge to amend his travel restrictions so he can attend a car show.

On Tuesday (June 15), Richard Barnett’s lawyer requested that his client’s home detention travel radius be extended from 50 miles to between 200 and 250 miles so he can attend a car show in Morrilton, Arkansas this week. The lawyer argued that his client, who reportedly buys and sells cars, needs to be present at the event for work so he can make money and provide for his family. A judge is expected to rule on this motion on Thursday (June 17).

Back in January, Barnett was arrested for storming the U.S. Capitol with hundreds of other pro-Trump supporters. He was hit with eight charges, including obstruction of an official proceeding; aiding and abetting; disorderly conduct in a Capitol building; parading, demonstrating, or picketing in a Capitol building; theft of government property; entering and remaining in a restricted building or grounds with a deadly or dangerous weapon; disorderly and disruptive conduct in a restricted building or grounds with a deadly or dangerous weapon and entering and remaining in certain rooms in the Capitol building.

Barnett was photographed sitting at Pelosi’s desk during the insurrection. After exiting the building, he was seen outside holding an envelope that he stole from her office.

In April, a federal judge granted Barnett bail because of his lack of criminal history and an absence of proof that he would be a danger to the public. Under his bail conditions, he cannot travel outside of a 50-mile radius from his home, cannot possess weapons, cannot associate with anyone from the Jan. 6 insurrection and his passport was revoked.

The rioter pleaded not guilty to the charges. If convicted, he reportedly faces more than six years in prison.
