Polo G was arrested in Miami, Florida over the weekend during his album release party. The night was supposed to be a celebration of the rapper’s new record Hall of Fame, but instead ended with about “30 cop cars” and officers manhandling guests, his sister said on Twitter.
“We went from celebrating a successful album with my family to watching my brothers be targeted and aggressively mishandled and thrown around by police,” Leilani tweeted on Saturday (June 12). “Yall should’ve seen how they had damn near 30 cop cars. All our guests who came to celebrate on the ground being manhandled!!!!”
“Them bullshit ass charges cuz y’all hate to see black success!!!” she added. “Disgusting y’all should’ve saw how happy they was that they detained my fucking brother!!! And the correctional/police officers laughing while listening to his music!!!!”
According to The Source, Polo was arrested at the event on five charges, including battery of a police officer, resisting arrest with violence and criminal mischief. Police claimed that one of the officers who tried to arrest Polo was struck several times and that the Chicago native resisted arrest. However, Polo said that he and his family were targeted by police as soon as they landed in Miami.
“[One] of the officers told us they was on us since we got off our jet,” he tweeted on Sunday (June 13).
“They playin foul in Miami & dat shit been like that for a minute,” he added.
The album release party was organized by Polo’s mother and manager Stacia Mac, who posted several pictures and videos from the festivities. Many of Polo’s family and friends were in attendance to help him celebrate Hall of Fame’s early success and his mother even gifted him $100,000.
On Twitter, Leilani reflected on her brother’s influence on not only their family but the world.
“I remember the last time Polo went to jail about 3 years ago. He came home and IMMEDIATELY sat our two younger siblings down and assured them that that was not the example he wanted to set for them and that he would strive to be a better role model! He kept his word!!!” she wrote. “Became one of the biggest recording artists in such a short time frame and an inspiration to not only my siblings but people all over the world!!!”
