Last year, Pa Salieu made huge waves with his debut project Send Them to Coventry, a 15-track offering that boasted the breakout hit “Frontline” and saw additional appearances from M1llionz, Mahalia, BackRoad Gee, and more. Thanks to said release, the West Midlands emcee has earned several accolades early in his career from the likes of the London Evening Standard, NME, GQ, and BBC’s music critics poll “Sound Of…,” from which he was declared the 2021 winner.
Midway through the year, and Salieu makes a big return with “Glidin’,” a WhYJay and LiTek-produced cut that features fellow UK star slowthai and is centered around how the collaborators would react to any conflict:
“On God, ‘til my death, mi nah care, mi nah care, the dirt I’ve done, mi nah care, mi nah care, if I licked your guy, mi nah care, mi nah care, you know smoke must spark anywhere, anyhow, how many missions pon a tree door car? Di arise of a shooting star, livin’ la vida loca, so I must feed dem the loca…”
Directed by KC Locke, the accompanying clip for “Glidin’” sees to be inspired by wackier visuals from legends like Busta Rhymes, Redman, and Diddy, beginning with shots of the duo donning straitjackets in one room while neon lights flood them in another. Elsewhere, viewers can see synchronized dancing, larger-than-life strippers, some piñata destruction, and more.
This past February, slowthai liberated his sophomore LP TYRON, a two-part concept that saw assists from A$AP Rocky, Skepta, Dominic Fike, Denzel Curry, James Blake, and Mount Kimbie. The project was a commercial success, landing slowthai at the top spot on the UK Albums chart following its first week of release. His debut album — the critically acclaimed Nothing Great About Britain — made landfall back in 2019.
