Just when you thought music release Fridays couldn’t get any better — it literally just did. We had hoped that despite his untimely passing, there would still be more MF DOOM material to come out. Today, we get our first (and hopefully not last) fulfillment of that promise today from Czarface, who just released their joint album Super WHAT? with the late DOOM and it is everything we thought it would be. Serving as the surprise follow up to 2018’s Czarface Meets Metal Face, Super WHAT? couldn’t have came at a better time for true Hip Hop connoisseurs. There’s even vinyl editions available for purchase, making this release even more special.
In an Instagram post announcing Super WHAT?, Czarface spoke on how the project was delayed by the COVID-19 pandemic, and the group’s appreciation for MF DOOM: “Super What? was recorded and slated to drop in April of 2020. When COVID-19 struck and the world stopped, we chose to pull it, focus on family, and fine tune a few elements on it. What you’ll be hearing was finalized, mixed & mastered in the summer of 2020, and it’s our honor and privilege to share it with you Friday.
“I speak for everyone involved,” Czarface continued, “when I say we were incredibly fortunate to have collaborated with DOOM… he was a one-of-a-kind, never-to-be-duplicated emcee, producer, and visionary. We wish peace and healing to his family, friends and everyone touched by the gifts he shared with the planet. MF DOOM FOREVER.”
Equipped with a total of 10 records, the album is split into two halves, the “DOOM Side” and the “Czar Side” and it contains features from Run-DMC’s DMC, Del The Funky Homosapien, and more. This release will hold a very special place in many of our hearts and rightfully so. Check it out below. Long live MF DOOM.
