A Top Dawg Entertainment artist is releasing new music tomorrow (May 7) and fans are pretty sure they know who it is. The Kendrick Lamar-toting record label teased fans last Wednesday (April 28) with a cryptic announcement that something would be dropping on Friday.
Naturally, Lamar fans were hopeful that the release would be new music from the elusive Compton rap star. However, after some internet sleuthing, fans have figured out that tomorrow’s release will likely be from Isaiah Rashad.
Rashad became a trending topic on Twitter Thursday afternoon (May 6) after TDE posted a clip on YouTube announcing that an upcoming music video will premiere tonight at 4 p.m. PST. After some digging, fans uncovered that the secret release is most likely a new single and music video by Rashad called “Lay Wit Me,” which features Memphis rapper Duke Deuce.
Like Kung Fu Kenny, it’s been a while since Rashad has shared new music. Back in January, he tweeted a photo of himself on the set of a music video along with TDE CEO Anthony “Top Dawg” Tiffith and Deuce. He later posted the same picture on his Instagram Story and wrote, “Up to no good again lol.”
Rashad dropped his most recent single, “Why Worry,” last April. The song was released as part of TDE’s Fan Appreciation Week series. Rashad’s last full-length album was 2016’s The Sun’s Tirade, which featured Kendrick Lamar, SiR, Zacari, SZA, Jay Rock and more.
“Can’t wait for some new Isaiah Rashad,” one fan tweeted on Thursday.
“Happy Thursday to Isaiah Rashad and Isaiah Rashad only,” another wrote.
TDE is also hosting a live premiere for the new video at 415 N. Fairfax Avenue in Los Angeles tonight at 4 p.m. local time. Find the link for the video’s YouTube premiere and see fans’ reactions on Twitter below.
