This past weekend, DJ Khaled unveiled his latest body of work KHALED KHALED, which sees 14 cuts and a wealth of features from JAY-Z, Nas, Lil Wayne, Lil Baby, Lil Durk, Cardi B, Migos, H.E.R., Drake, Diddy, Rick Ross, Meek Mill, and loads more. Following KHALED KHALED’s release, the Miami-based talent revealed a new visual from the project for “WHERE YOU COME FROM,” a 9th Wonder, STREETRUNNER, Tarik Azzouz, and Khaled-produced cut that brings together Jamaican legends Buju Banton, Capleton, Barrington Levy, and Bounty Killer for an aggressive, in-your-face collaboration:
“If unu mess with we, you a go see a million, we natty congo long, jus like the Amazon, spliff big like gas cylinder, man a beat like gong, one question, dem seh, ‘Hey, natty dreadlocks, a where you come from?’ Hammer beat, bwoy retreat wen him hear di ting slam, dem seh dreadlocks no play inna no bangarang, an anywhere we go, we ‘tan strong, hear dat, dem seh, ‘Hey, natty dreadlocks, a where you come from?’/”
The accompanying clip for “WHERE YOU COME FROM” takes us to the artists’ beautiful island, where everyone’s individual performance is interspersed with shots of everyday life — at one point, a topless Khaled appears to be taking on cook duties.
In a past interview with REVOLT’s “Drink Champs,” Khaled spoke on future plans for his We The Best Imprint, a label that’s previously helped stars like Flipp Dinero, Kent Jones, Mavado, and Ace Hood:
“We’re gonna sign up some more artists … And there’s a lot of things I’m doing this year that I’m probably gonna announce in 2021 about just the brand, as far as the label side. We’re bringing some more people onboard. We ain’t got nobody international right now, but we’re looking for greatness. You can never really know something’s gonna come to your table ‘til it comes ‘cause music is a feeling. It’s a vibe.”
