J.PERIOD has officially unveiled his brand new project J.PERIOD Presents… Story To Tell (Chapter One), and he’s just getting started. He prepped supporters with the project’s introduction earlier this month, which was the Dave Chappelle, Black Thought, and Tiffany Gouché-assisted on “All in Your Head.” The track opens up with the legendary voice of Dave Chapelle setting the tone, as he reels listeners in with his intro:

Hello, this is Dave Chapelle, welcoming you to J. Period Presents: A Story to Tell, a musical journey in three acts. If you here this sound, turn the page, please, tune your speakers for maximum bass response and enjoy the show. And now, ladies and gentlemen: A Story To Tell

Then, Black Though handles the first official verse:

My brother Joell went to see Dave Chappelle, Amidst the pandemic. I said “He brave as hell.”/ Blaze the trail, just don’t take a major L, I’ma wait. Savе the date/

The project consists of six tracks and boasts additional guest appearances from names like Jemele Hill, Masego, Shad, Bobbito Garcia, Mayda Del Valle, Crazy Legs, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Joell Ortiz, and Garth Trinidad. Before this was J.PERIOD’s The Live Mixtape [Top 5 MC’s Edition], which was released in 2020.

Earlier this month, J.PERIOD took some time to give a bit of insight about his intentions behind the project. “From Slick Rick to Biggie to Hamilton, hip-hop has always had a special gift for storytelling. As a kid, the stories I heard on wax painted pictures in my mind and sparked my imagination; music was my bridge to discovery,” he said about the project. “For my debut album, I wanted to push the envelope and carry that tradition forward, and I am honored to have one of the world’s premiere storytellers, Dave Chappelle, as the voice of our Story to Tell.”
