Digital Underground co-founder and rapper Shock G has sadly passed away at the age of 57, his fellow crew mate and friend Chopmaster J announced on social media on Thursday (April 22).
In an Instagram post that had a black-and-white photo of the two of them, J said: “34 years ago almost to the day we had a wild idea we can be a hip hop band and take on the world through it all the dream became a reality and the reality became a nightmare for some.”
He closed: “And now he’s awaken from the fame long live shock G Aka Humpty Hump and Rest In Peace my Brotha Greg Jacobs!!!”
Once this IG post was seen by fans, news spread like wildfire across the internet that Shock G was no longer with us in the physical form. At the time of this report, we aren’t yet aware of the recording artist’s cause of death. Nevertheless, countless fans quickly took to their own social media accounts to remember the fallen star.
From fellow celebrities to everyday people who loved what G contributed to the game, no one was shy about honoring him. Sports journalist Jemele Hill tweeted, “DAMN. Just read the news about Shock G. In the span of a few weeks, we’ve lost DMX, Black Rob and now Shock G. This is crazy. RIP Shock G,” while comedian and actor Marlon Waylons said, “No man, not Shock G… damn. A genuinely good dude. Bro, huh PAC for me. Hope y’all sipping’ and smoking on something they only grow in heaven.”
Even Tupac’s official Twitter account tweeted: “I look back [on my times with Shock G] with the greatest fondness. Those were like some of the best times of my life…RIP Shock G.”
