Last year, The Weeknd delivered one of the best albums of 2020 with After Hours, a 14-track tour de force that has since earned a wealth of accolades, including pole positions on charts and Platinum certifications all over the globe. After Hours has also since spawned deluxe and remix upgrades for added enjoyment.
One particular standout from After Hours is “Save Your Tears,” a pseudo-dedication to a certain past relationship. After some teasing earlier in the week, the Max Martin, DaHeala and Oscar Holter-produced effort sees a remix of its own, and now features some additional perspective from Ariana Grande:
“Met you once under a Pisces moon, I kept my distance ‘cause I know that you, don’t like when I’m with nobody else, I couldn’t help it, I put you through hell, I don’t know why I run away, oh boy, I’ll make you cry when I run away…/”
“Save Your Tears (Remix)” also comes with a matching visual courtesy of Jack Brown. The animated clip shows The Weeknd building Grande in a factory, adding her body parts to together to form his love interest. It ends with him standing next to the “34+35” singer, packaged as if she’s a life-sized Barbie doll.
Earlier this year, The Weeknd also acted as the sole performer for this year’s “Super Bowl LV” halftime show. The roughly 15-minute set saw the Canadian star delivering rousing renditions of “Call Out My Name,” “Starboy,” “The Hills,” “Can’t Feel My Face,” “Earned It,” “Blinding Lights” and other hits while unintentionally creating one of 2021’s most usable memes in the process. Longtime fans of The Weeknd also recently saw the 2011 classic House of Balloons land on streaming platforms in celebration of its tenth anniversary. Needless to say, Abel’s foot continues to remain on all of our collective necks.
