LeVar Burton will finally get his shot at hosting “Jeopardy!” On Wednesday (April 21), the hit trivia show revealed the list of names of guest hosts who will close out their 37th season of filming. “We can finally tell you!” the official Twitter account for “Jeopardy!” tweeted. “Here is the final group of guest hosts to close out Season 37: Robin Roberts, George Stephanopoulos, David Faber, Joe Buck and LeVar Burton!”
The former “Reading Rainbow” host was ecstatic to hear the news. “THANK YOU… to all y’all for your passionate support!” he tweeted. “I am overjoyed, excited and eager to be guest-hosting ‘Jeopardy!,’ and will do my utmost best to live up to your faith you in me. YOU MADE A DIFFERENCE! Go ahead and take my word for it, this time.”
“Jeopardy!” has been allowing guests to present for the show since Alex Trebek passed away in November. Last year, he made his illness public by announcing that he had stage 4 pancreatic cancer.
“Our goal has been to present a wide variety of guest hosts with different skill sets and backgrounds on our path to finding a permanent host,” said “Jeopardy!” executive producer Mike Richards. “Our passionate fans are telling us what they like, and we are listening. All of the guest hosts have brought individualism, energy and an authentic love of our show to each of their episodes. We look forward to sharing the rest of the season with our viewers.”
For months, fans have pushed for the 13-time Emmy winner to be named the permanent host of the show. Over 246,000 people have signed the “Make LeVar Burton the next host of ‘Jeopardy!’” petition on change.org.
“LeVar Burton has inspired and shaped the minds of several generations of trivia-loving nerds,” the petition read. It also listed his accomplishments, which included playing the “brainiac engineer Geordi La Forge on ‘Star Trek’” and “hosting 21 seasons of the educational ‘Reading Rainbow.’”
