The home of the former officer who fatally shot 20-year-old Daunte Wright has been barricaded by large concrete and fencing and is under police supervision. According to photos released by The New York Times, construction workers were seen placing the barriers around Kim Potter’s home, which is located in the Minneapolis suburb of Champlin. Another photo showed several police officers standing behind the fencing.

As REVOLT previously reported, Potter shot and killed Wright during a traffic stop on April 11. She claimed that she meant to use her taser instead of her firearm as he attempted to flee. However, Wright’s family does not believe that the 26-year veteran could not tell the difference between both weapons.

Wright’s parents made a tearful appearance on “Good Morning America” earlier this week to discuss losing their son. “I lost my son, he’s never coming back,” Aubrey Wright said. He also stated that he does not believe Potter’s excuse that she accidentally shot their son. “I can’t accept that — a mistake, that doesn’t even sound right,” he added. “This officer has been on the force for 26 years. I can’t accept that.”

On Wednesday (April 14), the ex-cop was arrested and charged with second-degree manslaughter for the shooting. According to charging documents, prosecutors are accusing her of “culpable negligence” and say she “created an unreasonable risk” when she shot the young man with a handgun instead of a taser. She has since been released from prison on a $100,000 bond.

On Thursday (April 15), Potter virtually appeared in court for the first time since the incident, alongside Earl Gray, her defense attorney. Hennepin County District Court Judge Paul R. Scoggin said she will not be allowed to “possess, use or transport firearms, ammunitions or explosives” during the case. She faces up to 10 years in prison and a $20,000 fine if convicted of second-degree manslaughter.
