It’s been a while since we’ve heard from ILoveMakonnen, but he now returns with a new celebratory body of work while feeling as free as ever. His new My Parade project is equipped with 13 tracks and is his first album “being back in control” over his art and creativity. It includes assists from Lil B on “More Bitches than The Mayor” and Payday on “Whoopsy.” On the latter track, ILoveMakonnen slides with ease:

I done spilled my whole fo on my motherfuckin’ Prada, and that bitch still dancing on me ‘cause she know I got them dollars/ Throw it up in the sky, see me fuckin’ drive by, in that purple lemonade, got you sippin’ hi-hi

Hello baby, what you need? I got that molly and that weed/ Get your twerking on the pole/ Get that money for next week, send it all out of town, baby riding in the Cadillac/ Said she got that pussy and I know that thing is very fat

Makonnen’s last body of work was released in 2019. His M3 project clocked in at a brief 17 minutes, spanning six tracks and a single feature from the legendary Gucci Mane. Before that was 2016’s Drink More Water 6. The year 2019 also saw a few singles from him like “Loser” and collabs like “I’ve Been Waiting” alongside Lil Peep and Fall Out Boy and “Cupid! (Shot Me In The Dark)” with Teddy. The new project is a celebration of a new era. Via press release, Makonnen made sure to express the deeper meaning of what this new body of work means:

The My Parade project is my first album being back in control over my art and creativity. It’s about celebration of self and having your own parade even if the world is raining down on it. My Parade album is a collection of genre-bending styles that I like to experiment in and showcase my versatility as an artist putting no limits on my musical expression.”
