It’s been five years since DRAM released his debut studio album Big Baby DRAM, which originally saw 14 tracks with additional appearances from Erykah Badu, Young Thug, and Lil Yachty — a deluxe edition appeared a short time later with eight songs and new collaborations with Playboi Carti, Trippie Redd, A$AP Rocky, and Juicy J. The Virginia talent has remained somewhat dormant since, save for a couple of high quality EPs — #1HappyHoliday and That’s a Girls Name — and loose cuts like “The Uber Song” and “Group Thang (Demo).” Up until 2018, DRAM could also be heard on songs like Gorillaz’s “Andromeda,” Trae Tha Truth’s “I’m On 3.0,” Smokepurpp’s “Count Up,” Young Dolph’s “All Of Mine,” Calvin Harris’ “Cash Out,” and Childish Major’s “I Like You,” among others.
Fast forward to now, and DRAM has officially returned to music under his first name, Shelley. This month, he will release his sophomore album Shelley FKA DRAM, which will see 10 new cuts — including the previously released singles ”Exposure” and “The Lay Down” with H.E.R. and Watt. This past weekend, fans got to check out another track titled “Cooking With Grease,” a Jack Ro-produced number that sees him singing about love and relationships:
“So the way I give good loving, makes me proud of myself, and I can’t be good for nothing, baby, I doubt it myself, hot sex out of the oven, baby, we’re cooking with grease, and next time you need a lil’ something, girl, start looking for me/”
“Cooking With Grease” also sees a visual that continues the late night talk show theme that kicked off earlier this year. In this clip, Shelley becomes the performing act for the “episode,” giving viewers a live rendition of the soulful offering with a backing band for support. Adding to the new video — and the aforementioned talk show approach — are a couple of “Cooking With Grease” shows that see him preparing his favorite meals.
