Currently, Memphis is definitely making their case as one of the most talented cities in regards to hip hop, having already spawned OGs like 8Ball & MJG, Three 6 Mafia, Yo Gotti, and countless others. Currently, frontrunners like Young Dolph, Key Glock, Moneybagg Yo, Pooh Shiesty, Duke Deuce, and Blac Youngsta continue to wave their city’s flag.

Today, Clay “Krucial” Perry III adds to the fold with his new body of work If We Must Die, an 11-track offering with additional features from Trippie Redd, BlocBoy JB, Tay Keith, and Lil Migo. The opening track, 4TheDayiGo, sees production from Austen and Noir and gives the listener a good idea of the message Perry looks to get across — which is mainly just telling his truth and journey to success:

“I got some shit that need figuring out, my mama looked at me, ‘ay nigga, get out,’ made 100k, that’s just to live on the couch, I came up from nothin, I did it in doubt, I built me route, my niggas can vouch, I needed you then and I didn’t hear a sound, won’t pick up a pen, everything I spit how, as I hit the ground, that’s how I feel now/”

A prolific artist in his own right, Clay “Krucial” Perry has been dropping off full-length releases since 2017, including well-received efforts like Vyv, Verne, Don’t Hear Your Mother Cry from the Other Side, All Gold Ain’t Krucial, Krucifix, It Could’ve Been Different, and T oo Sad For Tomorrow. Outside of his own work, he’s also provided production and/or mixing for artists like Bhad Bhabie, Rico Nasty, Chantel Jeffries, Yella Beezy, Quando Rondo, YoungBoy Never Broke Again, and Drake.
