Kofi Siriboe stars in Doja Cat’s newly released “Streets” video, and Twitter is losing it. The Ghanaian-American actor and model cameos as a taxi cab driver and Doja’s love interest in the four-minute clip.
“Doja really got THEE finest Black man in the ‘Streets’ video. Kofi Siriboe, hallelujah,” one fan tweeted on Tuesday morning (March 9).
“Doja Cat picking Kofi Siriboe as her eye candy for ‘Streets’ mv >>>” another added.
Siriboe, who is known for his roles in “Queen Sugar” and Girls Trip, is one of several Doja-admirers in her new video. The Christian Breslauer-directed cut also incorporates Doja’s version of the #SilhouetteChallenge, which spawned on TikTok with help from “Streets” earlier this year.
While “Streets” was released in 2019 on her Hot Pink album, the song bounced back up to the Billboard Hot 100 chart’s Top 20 last month. Doja was also recently announced as a performer for the upcoming Grammy Awards, so the track could get a live rendition this weekend.
Siriboe, on the other hand, recently wrapped up filming for season five of “Queen Sugar,” which returned last month. Production for the season initially began last March but when the pandemic hit, rewrites had to be made and actors had to be quarantined, series creator Ava DuVernay explained to TV Line. Producers accomplished this by setting the cast — which also includes Rutina Wesley and Dawn-Lyen Gardner — up at a small Louisiana B&B.
“It was a big challenge for them because they could not act with each other,” DuVernay said. “The way that we set up the story is the way that it was in real life. People had to go in their houses and stay with the people that they lived with. Ralph Angel and Darla are in their house with Blue, Vi is with Hollywood, Charley is with Micah, and Nova is with her man Calvin and they are all at home.”
